“God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honour— not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and His ways.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
Several years ago a family in Northern California had kept as a pet a mountain lion. They got it as a cub. It had lived with their family for years, and they treated it as a pet. They walked into their room from another part of the house one day to discover this mountain lion had attacked, killed and partially devoured their child. Why would they have allowed such a thing to happen? Because they thought the lion was domesticated. They refused to believe it was still a wild animal. Lust is just like that cub, it may seem cute and innocent but it will grow and it will not be domesticated and it will end up devouring you.
Today, as we look at “Overcoming Lust”, it is critical for us to recognize that there is nothing benign about lust, it is actually very malignant!!! It has the power to destroy lives, marriages, families, careers, reputations, churches & ministries. Just this year, the media has made us aware of many prominent personalities whose lives have been in uproar, careers curtailed, marriages & families shattered, and reputations destroyed because of lustful behaviour.
Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:22 to “Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts.” Because it is the safest and wisest option for one who seeks to follow Jesus Christ.
